Jukka
makes the blades of damascus knives with a traditional damascus technique,
whereby a soft, rich in carbon steel is forged into layers. The most
impressive pattern can be produced with several, about 150-200 layers
of forging. Different kinds of methods, for example twisting, are
used to produce different kinds of patterns. Nowadays is also used
a method, whereby two kinds of steel, mild steel rich in carbon and
nickel steel rich in carbon, are forged with damascus technique into
layers. In this way can be produced good carving qualities and impressive
patterns. |
